Amateur Club Excelsior '31 Knocks ADO Den Haag Out of Cup

One of the first big shocks of the 2026/27 Dutch Cup arrived on Tuesday, when amateur outfit Excelsior '31 sent Eredivisie club ADO Den Haag out of the Eurojackpot KNVB Beker. The tie was settled on penalties at Sportpark De Koerbelt in Rijssen, where the home side won 6-5 after a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes. A sold-out crowd of around 3,100 saw it happen. Elsewhere in the competition, thieves targeted De Geusselt Stadium in Maastricht, creating problems for MVV before its own cup tie.

The remaining kicks went in until Tom Koelman made it 6-5. That left ADO captain Sékou Sylla needing to score to stay in the tournament, but he put his shot wide. Players and supporters poured onto the pitch to celebrate.
