November Blasts Set Off Panic in City of Two Blasts
The suspect, named as Tomasz K., had been arrested in February on charges of involvement in two explosions that took place on November 25 and 26, 2023. Both blasts prompted suspence at the hospital among staff, patients and those living in the vicinity of the institution.
In court, prosecutors said Tomasz K. had confessed his part in the November attacks, and that he "carried out the bombings purely for the money."
Third Attack in January Featured Different Suspect
The hospital was attacked a third time in January 2024 by a device that again caused a fire when it exploded.
Three people were treated for smoke inhalation in that fire, and another suspect, 37, was arrested in that case.
Despite the fact that all three bombings motives remain unknown, officials said that the second bombing in November was reportedly a larger blast than the first, leaving what people in the community said left them concerned and afraid.
Temporary Release Denied By Court
Tomasz K.
said nothing during Monday's hearing. The judge ruled in favour of the prosecution and refused the application for temporary release, saying there were continued risks to security as well as the impact on hospital staff and members of the public.
The next pretrial court date is set for August 18 and anoth.
