What Happened at the Stadium
The incident unfolded when a group of Feyenoord supporters lit fireworks en masse during the match, catching many nearby fans off guard. In total, seven Cambuur supporters were injured. Their injuries ranged from minor cuts to something far more serious: permanent hearing loss.

Cambuur has since filed an official police report over the incident, treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

A Life-Changing Injury
Among those affected is a 41-year-old man whose hearing has now deteriorated to a level typically seen in someone decades older, closer to that of a 70-year-old. Cambuur director Jesse Bergsma spoke about the toll this has taken, describing the man as deeply emotional about what he now has to live with.

Bergsma revealed that the club held a direct meeting with the victims to hear their concerns and understand the full impact of what took place.

Bergsma didn't shy away from the difficult truth that no safety plan can guarantee complete protection. Still, he stressed that the club takes the situation seriously and intends to do everything within its power to keep fans safe going forward.
