Former Aegon HQ to Become Cyber Hub
The former Aegon headquarters located at Aegonplein, The Hague, will be redeveloped into the national Centre for Cybersecurity, according to a statement from the city. The re-developed facility – the House of Cyber – will be the central location for various entities in the Netherlands that are involved in cybersecurity and digital defence.
House of Cyber Investment and Development
The House of Cyber will house the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) of the Ministry of Justice & Security, the research institute TNO and the Ministry of Defence. The municipality of The Hague intends to purchase the building and is seeking approval from the city council. The city council will make a decision by 16 March.
The purchase price and estimated cost of renovation are approximately €60 million (sixty million euros).
Enhancing National Cybersecurity Resilience
In 2022, the Dutch government announced plans to establish a national digital security centre due to increasing fears of cyber attacks perpetrated by criminal networks and foreign adversaries. The new centre is viewed as providing important support to enhance the resilience of the country'scybersecurity.
Several consecutive security groups have worked collaboratively from The Hague on the basis of the Hague Security Delta, and many of these security groups will relocate part of their operations to the Aegon complex from their current locations around Station Laan van NOI.
Previous Use of the Aegon Building
The Aegon building, located on Aegonplein near "The Hague Mariahoeve" railway station, was originally home to Aegon's Dutch head office.
