A house on Floresstraat in Enschede was set on fire by a lightning strike during a very heavy thunderstorm on Wednesday afternoon. Emergency services were called to the blaze about 12:30pm and the fire is believed to have ignited on the roof of weatherboard home, possibly by a direct lightning strike.

Loud Boom Felt and Heard Throughout Community
The thunder from the lightning was so loud and was heard in the entire region. A number of residents described the sound as like an explosion. “It felt as if the flash reached us, and then about a second later, the bang came.
” One resident, Pascal van Duiven, told how “there was less than a second between the flash and the bang. The whole house was shaking.” Mark, another resident, concurred, “It was like an explosion, I thought it was.
”
Firefighters Arrive Quickly And Street Is Closed
