The National Heat Plan was activated at 10 am on Monday, urging healthcare staff and informal carers to check up on people believed to be most vulnerable to the heat, such as the elderly, the unwell and infants. Monday began sunny with a bit of cloud cover in the west.

Tuesday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week. The day will be balmy and close, with temperatures reaching between 30 and 36 degrees around the country.
Even along the coast, tropical heats between 27 and 30 degrees are expected, with little escape due to the lack of wind.
