Netherlands to Host Ukrainian Weapons Production

The Dutch government is working on a plan to allow Ukrainian defence companies to assemble weapons like 'Vampire' drones in Dutch factories, announced the Netherlands' Ministry of Defence Taskforce Ukraine at a European defence innovation conference.

Developing Production Outside Ukraine
This is modelled after previous actions of another country that recently agreed to relocate Ukrainian defence manufacturing, and is one of the first situations where a Ukrainian weapons supplier will make weapons or parts of weapons outside of Ukraine. In June, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine is negotiating agreements for joint weapons production with a number of countries to sustain the conflict.
Ukraine has developed its defence sector to 112 defence companies, employing over half a million workers, and producing approximately one third of the weapons employed by the Ukrainian armed forces.



Helena Dushenok of the Ukrainian company Skyfall said her company is looking for safe and secure options abroad. "How could the Netherlands help us? We need a safe place to work. That place could be here," she said.

Skyfall's has been producing 5,000 Vampire drones per month, which have featured in online videos dropping grenades on Russian positions.

Dutch Goals and Next Steps
Colonel Simon Wouda of the Taskforce Ukraine explained that the Dutch plan has goals beyond those previously announced by other nations. "We want to make it possible for Ukrainian companies to set up entire production lines here.
