What Happened on Ewijkseweg
It started before 5 a.m. on Ewijkseweg, when officers responding to an emergency call found themselves caught in gunfire.

The person who was shot died at the scene. Police haven't said much beyond confirming the arrests - the investigation is still in its early hours, and officials say they're not ready to share more.

Ambulance records tell part of the story.

The first crews arrived around 4:10 a.m., and a trauma team followed soon after by helicopter.

More responders kept showing up over the next hour as the picture on the ground became clearer.

Then, around 5:30 a.m.

, dispatchers put out an alert describing gunfire tied to a break-in, with several people reported hurt. Roughly an hour after that, another wave of medical staff arrived, including a second air ambulance - a sign that things on the ground were more complicated than the first calls suggested.

A Heavy Police Response
By daylight, the village looked like the scene of a major operation.

Officers from the police's Special Intervention Service, armed and in tactical gear, moved through the area while red and white tape sealed off several streets. Patrol cars sat parked inside the cordon, and near one of them, blood was visible on the ground. Investigators spent the morning working multiple spots around Overasselt, collecting evidence piece by piece.

As of now, police have.
