Heavy thunderstorms caused flooded streets and fallen trees in the northern Netherlands on Sunday. The storms brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to several areas. More storms are expected this afternoon, with more rain and wind on the way.

In Roodeschool, a town in Groningen, 46 millimeters of rain fell in a short time on Sunday. Assen also saw heavy rain, with nearly 40 millimeters recorded. While some other areas had less rainfall, they were still affected by strong winds, with gusts reaching 75 kilometers per hour.
Strong Winds Knock Down Trees
In the city of Maastricht, winds reached 79 kilometers per hour, while Nieuw-Beerta in Groningen measured 75 kilometers per hour. These strong gusts caused trees to fall in several places.
More Storms Expected Today
After a sunny morning, more thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon, according to the KNMI.
Forecasters warned of heavy rain showers, possible hail, and wind gusts of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour.
Some breaks of sunshine are likely between the storms, with temperatures rising to around 23 degrees. Tonight, the weather will turn cloudy again with some showers and thunderstorms, but no weather warnings have been issued.
