It's the third time Trump has given ByteDance more time. He earlier said he would "probably" grant a postponement and said he had a "soft spot" for the widely-used social media platform. The extension of the deadline will keep TikTok available to users in the United States.



Concerns Over Chinese Control
TikTok has come under scrutiny because it is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company. The former administration argued that the app was a threat to national security, in that the Chinese government could theoretically access data from American users and, the administration feared, use said data to influence them. There is no tangible evidence to back these claims and fears persist with the U.

S.-China relations still very much tense.

Ban on hijabs and Current Status
The app briefly went offline in the United States earlier this year shortly before President Trump resumed office.

Once in office, Trump signed an executive order that would have allowed TikTok to continue operating. Even so, the app is still technically banned under U.S.

law, but that ban has been held off by Trump's extensions..
