His opponent, France's Arthur Géa, pushed him to the brink. Van de Zandschulp dropped the opening two sets and even found himself facing a match point in the third before turning things around completely. He eventually closed it out 3-6, 6-7 (0), 7-6 (7), 7-6 (3), 6-4 in a contest that stretched past five hours.



A Wild Ride Through the Tiebreaks
The middle stretch told the real story. After losing the second-set tiebreak by a lopsided 0-7 scoreline, van de Zandschulp looked in trouble. But he dug in, grinding out the next two tiebreaks 9-7 and then 7-3 to level things up and shift the momentum firmly in his favor heading into the decider.



Breaks, Counter-Breaks, and a Hard-Earned Finish
The fifth set had its own drama. Van de Zandschulp broke Géa's serve right away in the first game, only to immediately hand his own break back. He stayed composed, though, and broke through again in the seventh game, this time making it stick to seal the win.



Zverev Awaits, With History Repeating Itself
Van de Zandschulp's lone previous quarterfinal appearance also came at Flushing Meadows, back in 2021, when he fell in four sets to Daniil Medvedev, who went on to lift the trophy that year. This time, he'll take on Germany's Alexander Zverev, the world No. 2, for a place in the semifinals.
