Dutch Tourists Warned of Black Saturday Traffic, Wildfires

Dutch tourists travelling to southern Europe and Turkey are being warned to take care as the region is blanketed by high temperatures and wildfires. The Red Cross has released a series of guidelines to enable visitors to travel safely during their holidays, and particularly at a time where traffic chaos is forecast on the main highways across Europe on "Black Saturday."

The Red Cross suggests saving local emergency numbers, like those for the fire department and ambulance, and identifying a reputable news source with real-time information about wildfires.

Holidaymakers are advised to have a bag packed with important documents, valuables, and solid shoes in case they are evacuated rapidly.

Cars ideally should be filled with fuel, and wet towels are recommended — they can help guard against heat and smoke or provide a buffer around feet if evacuation through a fire zone is required.



If someone cannot get out of their path in time, the Red Cross suggests getting to open areas like roads as fast as possible, to avoid worse places, which are more enclosed.

There have so far been no official reports of Dutch tourists requiring assistance because of the extreme heat. A few concerned holidaymakers did ask the ANWB urgent center for information.



Pressure Is On for The 'Black Saturday' Across Europe
In addition to the weather, drivers should also prepare for epic traffic jams this weekend. According to ANWB, Saturday, 2 August, will be one of the busiest travel days this year.

Holiday departures and returns are expected to lead to long delays, especially in nations such as France.

The first Saturday of August is known as "black Saturday" due to the heavy traffic of cars, especially as a large number of people from P.
