Damage to ship, crew evacuated
The missile attack ignited the Minervagacht and rendered it adrift for days before it was towed safely. The ship sustained significant damage. There were nineteen crew members on board at the time.

Two crew members were injured and medically evacuated to Djibouti. One remains in the hospital but is expected to return home later this week. Most of the crew has been sent back home already.

Houthis take responsibility, international Nuance
In the aftermath of the attack, Yemen's Shiite Houthi rebels claimed they attacked the vessel because they believed it had visited one or more ports in Israel and they used a cruise missile. After the attack, the Dutch government called on the European Union to designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization and impose more sanctions. The caretaker Minister of Foreign Affairs Van Weel stated, calling the Houthis "a serious threat to the freedom of navigation.

"

Spliethoff would not confirm the vessel visited Israeli ports but claimed it was operating in internationally permitted waters. Since the beginning of the war in Gaza, the Houthis claimed to have attacked approximately 100 vessels that they believed were sailing in relation to Israel, sinking four.
