The suspects are accused of involvement in 40 different cases of organised and commercial smuggling, with a total number of at least 500 individuals.
The figures may be much larger, as reports have said the network was moving up to 480 people a day into Europe and Germany this year.
Profits and Legal Action
Spanish police say the gang charged customers around €2,500 per person, and were willing to help them cross into other countries illegally. Between 2021 and 2025, the group is understood to have been paid anything between €1.
4 million and €10 million off whatever numbers are finally accepted.
Dutch officials said the Houten suspect was being held in custody at an unknown location, and that he had been provided with access to a lawyer, but gave no further details.
