The fire broke out in the nature reserve Boschhuizerbergen and spread quickly in different directions. Firefighters have been creating firebreaks to stop the blaze spreading further, including along the Maasheseweg, which is aimed at stopping the fire moving northwards. The railway line running through the area has also been designated as a firebreak, although the fire has already crossed it in one area which is currently being closely monitored and actively suppressed.

Some parts of the 100-hectare zone have already burned and been extinguished, but the fire is still active in other parts and conditions remain unpredictable, authorities said.
