Confused Man Arrested After Standoff in Wijlre

A tense situation in the Limburg village of Wijlre was resolved late last night when a baffled man was arrested on Brouwerijstraat after two shops were barricaded. The incident unfolded from about 4:30 p.m. to nearly 11:30 p.m. when the man was taken into custody after officers deployed a stun gun, the Dutch police force said.

That caused a massive emergency response. A team from the Special Intervention Service, as well as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) of the Ministry of Defence and the fire brigade, were with the arrest team at the location.

Limited communication They have kept it alive for this reason and are dramatizing the struggle.

Police called the episode a "threatening situation with a confused person." Although negotiators tried to get in touch, authorities said the communication "did not happen as we would like." Luckily it was empty of people and the vicinity didn't need evacuation as there were no homes nearby.

The EOD was there as another precaution. The street was closed for safety reasons and there were no injuries associated with the arrest.
