Criminal Activity by Organized Crime Suspected by Mother
His mother believes her son's death is related to a feud in the criminal underworld. "What I have feared for years is now a reality," she said. She told how Emiel had battled with difficulties from a young age and had fallen in with the wrong crowd at age 12. "I did everything in the world to get him out. But nothing worked."

A 60-year-old man who lived in the apartment where Den Hollander was discovered was arrested in April but was later released. He remains a suspect. In May, a 23-year-old man from Hoorn was arrested on suspicion of murder and of manslaughter causing unlawful deprivation of freedom leading to death.

S10 Already Discussed the Incident
In response to the incident, the singer S10 cancelled multiple appearances in May, including the Liberation Day festival on 5 May. In a subsequent performance, she briefly addressed her brother's condition, "I'm a twin and my other half is in the hospital. And that's very intense."
