Fireworks Delay, Then Feyenoord Take Control
Things got off to an odd start when the match was paused for half an hour just 12 minutes in, after Feyenoord fans set off fireworks in the stands, some aimed toward the Cambuur section.
Once play resumed, Feyenoord wasted little time asserting themselves. Zechiel opened the scoring four minutes after the restart, capitalizing when the Cambuur goalkeeper came rushing out to deny Ueda and picked up an injury in the process, leaving the ball free for Zechiel to slot home between defenders.
By the 27th minute it was 2-0, with Gaoussou Diarra threading a low ball through to Valente, who had all the room he needed inside the box to finish calmly. Manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst watched his side make it look almost effortless.
Two of the club's new arrivals then combined for goal number three in the 42nd minute, as Diarra set up an onrushing Mika Marmol, whose effort deflected in off goalkeeper Jansen and was later ruled an own goal. Before the break, Feyenoord added a fourth: Anis Hadj Moussa fed Givairo Read, who was fouled after controlling the ball, and Ueda stepped up to convert the resulting penalty.
Late Cambuur Fightback Comes Too Late
Despite the lopsided scoreline, the home fans found something to cheer as Rafik El Arguioui netted twice in the space of ten minutes to pull the score back to 4-2. Any hopes of a real comeback were short-lived, though, as Zechiel completed his brace and Feyenoord's fifth goal arrived just two minutes later.
The result lifts Feyenoord to fourth in the table, sitting behind AZ, Go Ahead Eagles and PSV, all of whom enjoyed winning weekends. AZ made it two wins from two with a 2-0 victory over Fortuna Sittard, helped by Ole Romeny's early red card for a dangerous challenge and two goals from Jizz Hornkamp.
Go Ahead Eagles, meanwhile, kept up their strong form under new boss Joseph Oosting, cruising to a 3-1 win with goals from Søren Tengstedt, Victor Edvardsen and Stefan Inge Sigurðarson. Their opponents, newly promoted like Cambuur and Willem II, remain winless and have struggled in every outing so far this season.
