Ouazane is among five fresh faces brought into the squad this time around. He now has a genuine shot at making his senior international debut, with Morocco set to feature in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Gabon and Lesotho, alongside a friendly clash with Ghana.
From Amsterdam Streets to Morocco's National Colours
Ouazane was born and raised in Amsterdam, and he came through several youth ranks with the Netherlands before eventually deciding where his international loyalties would lie. The Dutch football federation, the KNVB, reportedly tried hard to keep him in their system, but Ouazane ultimately chose to commit his future to Morocco instead.
That choice wasn't out of nowhere. He'd already turned out for Morocco's under-17 side and impressed plenty of people while doing so, netting three goals at the 2025 U17 World Cup. His performances clearly caught the eye of the coaching staff, so much so that Ouahbi made a personal trip to Amsterdam just to watch Ouazane play live during Ajax's Conference League playoff clash against FC Sion.
A Breakout Season Under Michel Sanchez
Back at club level, things have been going rather well for the young winger. Under new Ajax boss Michel Sanchez, Ouazane has been given real chances to shine this season. He made his first Eredivisie appearance against PEC Zwolle and has continued to build on that since.
So far, across 12 appearances in all competitions, he's contributed one goal and three assists, numbers that reflect a player growing in confidence with every outing. Sanchez has mostly used him on the left flank, though he's also brought him on as an impact substitute in several matches, a smart way of managing his workload while still getting him valuable minutes.
Amrabat Left Out as Targhalline Gets the Nod
Not every Ajax player made the cut, though. Sofyan Amrabat is notably absent from the squad. The midfielder had previously made it clear that he has no plans to represent the national team as long as Ouahbi remains in charge, a stance that appears to be holding firm.
Elsewhere, Feyenoord's Oussama Targhalline has been named in the squad and will look to add to his international experience during the upcoming fixtures.
