The discovery was made Monday evening around 6:30 p.m., after officers were called to the address. By all accounts, the body had been there for some time before anyone raised the alarm.
How the Discovery Was Made
It was Paul Wyber's brother who first sensed something was wrong. Unable to reach him, he contacted the man's daughter, who then called the police. Wyber was last seen alive on April 27. When officers entered the property, they found his body and almost immediately began treating the circumstances as suspicious. Neighbours and others near the scene reported seeing visible blood stains around the front entrance of the home, painting a grim picture of what may have unfolded inside.
King's Day Violence Suspected
Residents believe the incident may have taken place on April 27, which was King's Day — a national holiday known for large, often rowdy street celebrations across the Netherlands. The Jordaan, being one of Amsterdam's most popular areas, was packed with crowds that day. According to those living nearby, Wyber may have confronted someone who was urinating in public, and what followed reportedly spiralled into a fatal altercation.
Police traced the two suspects through a thorough investigation involving forensic evidence, witness interviews, and a review of surveillance camera footage from the area. Both boys were arrested in public on Thursday. A judge ruled the following day that they must remain in pre-trial detention, with contact restricted solely to their legal representatives.
