The celebrations that surrounded the race weekend proceeded smoothly, with only a few small incidents. Moolenburgh, the mayor, stated that there was some unrest in Zandvoort's nightlife area late Saturday night when police intervened after disagreements arose after police closed some gates. "That eventually happens when there are so many people together," Moolenburgh commented.
Record Numbers by Train
Rail transport company NS reported that they transported almost 140,000 Formula 1 fans to Zandvoort over the weekend, a record compared to the previous four editions of the event, and NS confirmed the special timetable worked well. Trains operated five-minute headways at full capacity between Amsterdam and Zandvoort, allowing the company to transport approximately 10,000 people every hour in each direction.
The busiest day was Sunday, as the main race took place and the most fans travelled by train.
