Arnhem Webshop Sells Designer Drugs Ahead of Ban

A webshop in Arnhem in Gelderland has been inundated with designer drugs orders the past few days as the vendor has been advertising the substances on sale, ahead of a national ban that goes into effect on Tuesday, July 1st. Because such substances can have pharmacological effects similar to those of illicit stimulants, they are often unregulated and can carry serious health risks.

Unchecked Rush to Purchase Before the Deadline
As the ban looms, they have been selling these drugs, which will soon be classified as illegal, to customers. Healthcare professionals have expressed concern about the sale.

“It’s hazardous,” says addiction specialist Michel Wolters, pointing out that it’s not yet known what is going to surface at summer festivals since so many popular designer drugs are going to be made illegal.

Health Risk and Uncertainty Post-Ban
Designer versions of the drugs are commonly sold as legal substitutes for banned drugs, though their chemical makeup can be almost impossible for users to predict.

Now that new law, some in the know fear, could change the nature of the illicit drugs in circulation, posing enforcement and public health risks in the coming summer festival season.
