Additional Military Aid from the Netherlands
Beyond the Patriot systems, the Netherlands will also provide additional military equipment to Ukraine. This includes F-16 ammunition, drones, and radar systems. Brekelmans emphasized the need for ongoing and increased support, saying, "Much has already been done, but more is needed.
Only by continuing to support Ukraine on a massive scale and increasing the pressure on Russia can we force it to the negotiating table."
The United States, as the sole manufacturer of Patriot missiles and their launch systems, agreed last week to supply them through NATO partners, provided the financial costs are covered by allies.
Germany has already committed to delivering five Patriot systems, and Norway is also contributing to funding.
Dutch Patriot Capabilities and Ukraine Talks
Currently, the Netherlands possesses three Patriot systems, which its defence ministry says cannot be spared. However, the country has previously sent missiles and essential components to Ukraine.
Dutch Patriot systems have seen action before, including deployments in Turkey, Israel, and during the 1991 Gulf War.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that a new round of talks between Ukraine and Russia will take place in Turkey on Wednesday. These discussions are expected to include prisoner exchanges.
