Accident Overview
The not-so-deep outside ocean was somewhere near the Pollendam northwest of Harlingen, around 9:30 p.m. The Storebaelt is an old sailing ship (built in 1928) that is available to charter for trips around the IJsselmeer and Wadden Sea, and it was taking 25 German school children, five adults, and a dog on a sailing charter. Following the crash, KNRM took the children to Harlingen to have their injuries checked. KNRM said some of the children were in shock and some had bumps to the heads and minor injuries when medical checked by paramedics.

Post-Accident Response
After helping the injured, KNRM and the Noordgat shipping company took the sailing charter back to Harlingen. The freighter returned to port also. Both ships sustained damage in the incident, but it is unclear what caused to crash. Harlingen which is on the Friesland Coast was under a code yellow weather warning of high wind at the time of the incident.
