Eindhoven Police Catch Driving Students and Instructor Using Drugs During Lessons

A police inspection of driving school vehicles in Eindhoven revealed a troubling discovery: five people, including four student drivers and one instructor, were under the influence of drugs while taking part in driving lessons. The incident has raised serious concerns about safety and regulation in the learner driving sector.

Drug Use Among Learners and Instructor

During the coordinated traffic check on Monday, authorities tested 48 learner vehicles with both students and instructors. Tests showed that four students and one instructor had used intoxicating substances. Although police did not identify the specific drugs, blood samples were taken from all five individuals for detailed analysis.

In addition to the drug violations, another instructor was cited for not having proof of authorization to give lessons. This individual was fined on the spot for failing to present the required teaching credentials, a legal necessity for driving instructors in the Netherlands.

Similar Violations in Other Cities

This case comes shortly after a similar incident in Den Bosch, where six student drivers tested positive for drugs. In that inspection, one instructor was found to be under the influence of cocaine while accompanying a student. These repeated violations suggest a worrying trend in the driving school industry.

So far, Eindhoven police have not provided updates on the consequences for those involved or whether further actions will be taken against the driving schools implicated.
