Child in Coma After Eating Cannabis-Laced Haribo Candy

A child was rushed to hospital in a coma after eating Haribo sweets laced with cannabis, Ziekenhuisgroep Twente (ZGT) said. The incident was reported by local media. Two children were transported to a hospital in Almelo, and the serious condition one was whisked to a specialist hospital. The children are both recovering well now, a spokesperson said.

The children are a toddler and a preschooler. The hospital declined to share more details to protect the family's privacy. At first, the situation was not taken so seriously, the spokesman said, but it ended up being more dangerous than anticipated. Officials are now trying to determine how cannabis got into the candy.

Haribo's Response and Continued Investigation
Haribo were grateful the children had made a recovery and said they were co-operating fully with authorities in the investigation. The company said it is cooperating with efforts to determine how the cannabis contamination happened.
