Good Performance of Both Food and Beverage Business
Food and beverage services were particularly strong. The other two categories—cafes and fast food, the latter of which includes chains like Burger King and Subway in Britain—showed increases in turnover of 4 percent and 2.8 percent. The segment performing the best was canteens and catering services with an increase of 5.5 percent. In total, sales in catering (food and beverages services) increased by 4.4 percent.
Hotels also had gains in revenue, up 2.3 percent from a year earlier. But other types of accommodation, such as holiday parks and campsites, saw a 3.5 per cent drop, meaning the total increase in income among accommodation providers was only 0.6 per cent.
But Trust in Industry Remains on a Low Despite Improvements
Turnover is still growing, but the mood among hospitality entrepreneurs is suffering from a lack of confidence. In the second quarter of 2025 (CBS index), business confidence in the sector was -12.3. Though an improvement from -17.9 in the first quarter, this is the lowest confidence level of any sector in the Netherlands. Business owners were a tad less negative about the overall economic situation than they had been in April, but were decidedly cautious about the next three months.
