Poet laureate From 2021 to 2023 Marsman was the Poet Laureate of the Netherlands. Wat ik zelf graag voorhoud was her first poetry collection which was published in 2010 onwards and gained three literary prizes. Her latest book, Op een andere aarde zij mij redden (On Another Planet They Can Save Me), was released earlier this year. The book contains essays and diary pieces contemplating life, death, hope and impermanence. Marsman has terminal metastatic cartilage cancer.
Surprise for the 34-Year-Old Writer/EntityManager as He is On The "Verge Of A Small Madness"
Marsman was full of wonder and was grateful when he had heard. "I didn't know you could receive a lifetime achievement award at 34, but it feels good," she said. Looking back on her work, she added: "I'm not great at making stuff up, but I'm good at describing things. And there is plenty more that has not been described."
She stressed the importance of original expression in literature, saying, "We need new ways of saying things so we don't just keep repeating each other."
Awards Show to Bow in January
The Constantijn Huygens Prize is given annually by the Jan Campert Foundation and comes with a cash prize of €12,000. This year's prize will be officially presented Jan. 24 at the Writers Unlimited Festival in The Hague.
