Dutch F-16 Deliveries to Ukraine Nearly Complete

Most of the 24 F-16 fighter jets pledged by the Netherlands to Ukraine have now been delivered. Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans confirmed that "almost all of them have been handed over," though he did not disclose the exact number. The remaining jets are expected to arrive shortly.

During a visit to the European F-16 Training Center at Romania's Fetesti airbase, Brekelmans highlighted the Netherlands' contribution to setting up the centre. Both Romanian and Ukrainian pilots are currently training there with Dutch-supplied F-16s. In addition, a training program for F-16 maintenance personnel will begin this summer at the same facility, aiming to train hundreds over the coming years.

Strengthening Ukraine's Defense and NATO Aspirations

Brekelmans emphasized that delivering the F-16s is only part of the mission. "Keeping them in the air is a huge logistical operation," he said, underlining the importance of skilled personnel in supporting Ukraine's transition to a Western-style air force. The move is a step forward in Ukraine's efforts to join NATO, as it gradually shifts away from its current fleet of Soviet-era aircraft.

He also visited Câmpia Turzii airbase, where two Dutch MQ-9 Reaper drones are stationed. These unmanned aircraft monitor NATO's eastern border and provide surveillance over parts of Ukraine and the Black Sea, supporting the country's defense efforts.
