More Staff, Longer Trains, Extra Sprinters
To keep things running smoothly, NS plans to bring in more than 300 additional staff members every day throughout the weekend. Trains heading toward Amsterdam will also be lengthened by adding extra carriages to handle the increased demand. On top of that, extra sprinter services will run between Amsterdam and Zandvoort, each staffed with two drivers and a conductor so departures can happen quickly and efficiently.
Zandvoort station itself will see extra platforms opened to manage the flow of passengers, while Haarlem station will get an additional staircase installed to ease congestion. More check-in and check-out poles will also be added at stations along the route. Meanwhile, level crossings between Halfweg and Zandvoort will be shut down for the weekend, with traffic rerouted elsewhere.
Sprint Race Adds to the Rush
The Formula 1 weekend isn't the only big event happening around that time - Lowlands festival in Biddinghuizen is also taking place, adding even more pressure to the transport network. Making things a bit more complicated this year, the Dutch Grand Prix will include a sprint race for the first time, kicking off at noon on Saturday. Because of this, NS is urging fans planning to attend the sprint race to arrive at Amsterdam Centraal before 9:30 a.m. to avoid missing out.
There's also an incentive for early risers - anyone arriving in Zandvoort before 9 a.m. will get a 50 percent discount on their fare.
