Voorne aan Zee warns of fake cannabis letters

Residents of Hellevoetsluis have received notification from the municipality of Voorne aan Zee regarding false letters stating that they would receive a misconception for odour complaints concerning the cannabis cultivation project. Residents received correspondence stating that they would receive free cannabis joints and vouchers; however, this is a hoax.

False Letters stating they would receive Joints and Vouchers
The false letters address local households that allegedly state residents would receive two cannabis-joints pre-rolls and a voucher worth €124.95 to hotels and wellness. Access to this voucher was connected through a QR code. The letters referenced that this was an effort to compensate residents for the odour nuisance associated with "the closed coffeeshop chain" project. The municipality indicated that this was a sham and advised people not to scan the QR code and throw the letter away.

Background Cannabis Odour Complaints
This situation capitalizes on a real experience in Hellevoetsluis. Since the opening of a legal cannabis grower in autumn 2023, neighbours have reported smelling robust odours. In March, they gave the company CanAdelaar environmental rules, limiting the odours strictly to limits, and consequences approaching $3.5 million if violated. On September 10, a court supported the municipality due to the legitimacy of the order with notices that must be met.
