Two Exotic Snakes Found Near Assen

Local animal rescue teams in the Assen area fear that two exotic snakes that were captured in the city over the past week will be abandoned. A second snake, a white ball python, was captured on Monday near the Pittelo neighbourhood in Assen, days after a Mexican kingsnake was caught out in nearby Taarlo. The two snakes are non-venomous and appeared to have been kept as pets.

Annemay Bock of Dierenambulance Drenthe told RTL Nieuws that the species are not dangerous, but it is indeed rare to find them in nature. In Northampton itself, native snakes include adders and grass snakes. While the ball python is popular with private owners and in captivity, fewer people keep Mexican kingsnakes.

Ownership and Care
After being handed in to the Dierenambulance, the Mexican kingsnake turned out to be from someone who had lost it. The owner of the ball python has not been found, however. The snakes were believed to have come from separate households, as the homes where they were found had enough space between them. It's not known how they ended up in the wild, but both had been held captive.
